Hello everyone,
I have recently learned what a "Tree of Life" activity is I would like to share with you both my own personal tree, as well how I felt while in the process of making it. Now. Before you look at it, I am not an aspiring artist and I can barely draw a stickman, but I hope you enjoy both my depiction of it, as well as inspire you to create your own!
When I started the drawing process I thought how maybe it would just be easier to try and do my tree on a computer even though I am just as bad with technology. When I started drawing though, I wanted to see if I can make it out to look like me almost: personal and chaotic all at the same time. I began to write what each section meant to me and then I realized how exciting it was to see how much I could say I learned from someone I knew! After finishing the entire tree and colouring it, I stepped back to reflect on my work. I feel that through the actual work of drawing, writing, and colouring it by hand, it allowed me to appreciate the person I have become to be throughout my life! (Weller)
After doing this activity, I can understand now what they mean when they say a Social Worker needs to really reflect and understand every aspect in their life before truly understanding and helping another person, especially those that are in a diverse minority group in Canada.
I keep saying that my appreciation for Social Workers grows every time I learn more about the field and the steps they need to do to help a client, but it does. Social Workers are the true inspirations everyone needs!
*If you would like to learn more about what a "Tree of Life" is and how to create one, I placed the reference of the blog I based mine on below. I highly recommend!
